The Council of Ministers yesterday approved a Royal Decree granting the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, posthumously, to Ignacio Echeverría Miralles de Imperial, the Spanish citizen who died during the terrorist attacks last Saturday in London.

According to the Foreign Ministry, on Wednesday, when the British authorities confirmed his death, “the exemplary attitude of Ignacio Echeverría during the attacks is, for all, a model of solidarity”.

“His courage in defending a defenseless person serves to remind us of the need to stand united in the face of the scourge of terrorism, against those who make violence and terror their only language”, he added.

Foreign sources have told the press that the body of Echeverria will arrive today at the military airfield of Torrejón (Madrid) aboard an Air Force plane, accompanied by his relatives and the Spanish consul in London.
