The new Ambassadors of Panama, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Belize and Zambia presented their Credentials yesterday before His Majesty the King, in the traditional ceremony celebrated at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
The Credentials is the document accrediting foreign ambassadors as representatives and highest diplomatic authorities of their country in Spain. The ceremony to present them before the Head of State goes back to the 18th century, and it has remained almost intact until the present day.
Milton Cohen Henríquez Sasso, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama, was the first one to give the documents to the monarch accrediting him as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador.
He was followed by the ambassadors of Malaysia, Zainal Abidin Bin Bakar; New Zealand, Andrew Thomas Jenks; the Philippines, Philippe Lhuillier Jones; Belize, Dylan Vernon; and Zambia, Humphrey Chilu Chibanda.
The ambassadors moved from the Santa Cruz Palace, official headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, to the Official Chamber of the Royal Palace, where the presentation of Credentials took place.
The ambassadors arrived at the Royal Palace in vintage carriages of National Heritage, escorted by the Squadron of the Royal Guard and the Squad of Scouts of the Municipal Police. The music band of the Royal Guard received the ambassadors in the Patio de la Armería, performing the national anthems of their respective countries. At the end of the ceremony, and after a brief meeting with the Monarch, each of the ambassadors left the Royal Palace in the official vehicle, while the Spanish national anthem was playing, and headed towards their residence.
