The Foreign Minister, Alfonso Dastis, held a meeting yesterday with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence of Cape Verde, Luís Filipe Tavares, in which they analysed, among other things, bilateral relations. They also addressed the special significance for the Canary Islands, because of their geographical proximity, for their island character and the similarity of some challenges they have ahead, as well as the energy supply, the urban development or inter-island communities.
Dastis pointed out that Cape Verde is a reference in Western Africa in terms of governance, political rights and civil freedoms: a solid and reliable interlocutor with a great potential with which Spain maintains intense relations, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.
