The Spanish government has dismissed as “unacceptable” the last declarations made by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in which he described President Mariano Rajoy as “cowardly” for allowing alleged “aggression” to the ambassador of Caracas in Madrid, Mario Isea.

In a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Spain stated that Maduro “once again resorts to insult and personal disqualification” to Rajoy, after Isea denounced that a group of “reactionaries” had him “kidnapped” with a hundred people . Apparently, this group prevented him from leaving the cultural center of Venezuela in Madrid, where the diplomat had attended an event with a “committee of victims” of Venezuelan opponents.

The department of Alfonso Dastis also recalled that the demonstration in front of the Cultural Diversity Center, where the altercation took place, was authorized and clarified that “at no time did it jeopardize the integrity of the attendees, since it had adequate police protection” . In addition, Ambassador Isea kept in touch with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation at all times.

“The classification as aggression or abduction of the events that took place can only seek to divert attention from the profound political and economic crisis that Venezuela suffers,” said the Executive, who urged Caracas to “offer effective and truly democratic solutions.”

In the same official note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wished for Venezuela economic progress that meets the needs of its citizens. Also, “a regime of freedoms in which human rights and the rule of law are respected, in which political prisoners are freed and where the people are given the right to speak freely, through a democratic vote, on who should Directing the destinies of the country “.
