The veteran Italian journalist, correspondent in Spain for ‘Il Messaggero’ of Rome, Josto Maffeo, has been decorated by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, with the title of ‘Cavaliere’ (Knight) of the Order Stella d’Italia.
The decoration has been granted this afternoon by the Ambassador Stefano Sannino at a ceremony at the Embassy of Italy in Madrid. The Order “Stella d’Italia” is considered the second civil honorary title by importance granted by the transalpine State.
It has been granted to Josto Maffeo in recognition of his long career, his contribution to the relations between Italy and Spain, as well as his multiple solidary activities, especially in the field of health, with the nomads of several regions of the Sahara desert, and his constant and active support to the Spanish emergency services.
Maffeo has also collaborated with the National Police in the field of civic participation, in favour of the protection of vulnerable sectors, such as that of the elderly.
He has also been the promoter of the “Tiepolo Awards”, which have been granted by the Italian Chamber in Spain for the last twenty years to personalities of both countries and constitute an important forum in the Italian-Spanish economic, political and social fields.
