Nicaraguan Ambassador to Spain, Carlos Midence, gave yesterday the inaugural lecture of the 8th International Conference ‘Silos Literario’, which pays homage to the poet Rubén Darío on the 150th anniversary of his birth.
In his lecture, entitled “Rubén Darío on the 150th anniversary of his birth: aesthetic validity and innovative thinking”, Midence, also writer and historian, took a close look at the sociocultural processes which lived the poet in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and how these influenced his thinking and his aesthetic position.
The meeting, which is held in Burgos and will be closed on Sunday, is attended by prestigious intellectuals, scholars and writers such as the accredited medievalist and professor of the University of Geneva, Carlos Alvar, and the poet and president of the spanish PEN Club, Basilio Rodríguez Cañada, between others.
More than 40 intellectual creators from all over the world have gathered at this international meeting, where have been organized discussion tables such as ‘Women and Literature’.
The event is organized under the auspices of the Santo Domingo City Council, the Center for Tourism Initiatives, the Santo Domingo de Silos Abbey, the Editorial Group Sial Pygmalion and the PEN Club.
