The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, intends to travel to Madrid on 19 and 20 April to attend a meeting of the Executive Board of the United Cities and Local Governments network. She is one of the Co-chairs for gender issues.
The French mayor will use her stay in the Spanish capital to have a meeting with her counterpart in Madrid, Manuela Carmena, and has asked to be received in audience by King Felipe VI a few days before the first round of the presidential elections in April 23, according to a confidential communication from the Spanish Embassy in Paris to which The Diplomat has had access.
“For the political importance of Ana Hidalgo as mayor of Paris and for her warm welcome and homage that rendered Her Majesty the Kings in the city hall, on the occasion of his state visit to France, I believe that, as far as possible, this request should be considered favorably”, said Ambassador Ramón de Miguel in that letter.
