The Chinese New Year is being celebrated in the neighbourhood of Usera, in Madrid. Three days of party, from today until Sunday. A great parade with more than 800 artists and four big Chinese dragons will be the most colourful start of the programme of the Cultural Area of the City Council of Madrid in collaboration with the neighbours of the district.
On Saturday 28 January, from 11:00 to 13:00 hrs, the Year of the Cock will turn Usera into a museum in the open air. The walls of its buildings will show huge portraits by photographer Juan Carlos Toro. Some of the most outstanding proposals are: the performance of Tumbaita and Karina Yao, a dialogue between the flamenco and the Chinese cultures, and the concert of Chinese rock by the band ‘Dark N Down’.
On Sunday, a great passacaglia will put an end to the festivities with the tradition of Chinese lanterns that fly with wishes for the New Year of the Red Cock. The complete programme can be consulted here.
