“My objective is to use the huge potential that Spain offers in different parts of the world to contribute to the global progress”, India’s Ambassador, D. B. Venkatesh Varma (in the above photo, during his speech), said during the reception offered at the Ritz Hotel on the occasion of his country’s National Day.
The ambassador, who has been barely two weeks in Madrid, described Spain as a country “with wonderful people, great traditions and a great economic potential”, and pointed out that “I had never felt so welcomed”.
Representing the Spanish Foreign Ministry was the director general of Asia and the Pacific, Fidel Sendagorta. The director of Casa Asia, Ramón Moreno was also present. Representing the Spain-India Council Foundation were its President, Alfonso Escámez; secretary general, Alonso Dezcallar, and the vice-president, Mohan Chainani.
The event was also attended by numerous representatives of Spanish companies with investments or interests in India, such as Indra, Gestamp or Navantia, and representatives of CEOE, as well as the heads of Mission of Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, Australia, Bangladesh, North Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, Jordan, Morocco, Cameroon, Gambia, Kenya, South Africa and Sudan, among others.
