The inclusion of Foreign Affairs in the list of ministries that Podemos wishes to head in a hypothetical coalition government with the PSOE raises the question of whether or not it has support within the Diplomatic Service.

Party sources told the Diplomat that Podemos has, at the moment, support and advice from a dozen working diplomats. The only one to take up the cudgels in public is Alberto Moreno, former ambassador to Andorra and currently the Podemos City Councillor in the Majadahonda (Madrid) Council, a position he combines with his work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The above sources acknowledge that Podemos does not have sufficient allied diplomats to fill the high level positions in Foreign Affairs.  “We do not have people to fill all the positions in the Ministry but we are going to act with complete loyalty to the Service; the best people do not mind where they go and will have the posting they deserve”, they stressed.

As for the potential Minister of Foreign Affairs that Pablo Iglesias would choose in a PSOE-Podemos Government, the Podemos leader has said on several occasions that he would like it to be Pablo Bustinduy, parliamentarian and his international policy advisor during the months he was in the European Parliament.
