Mohamed Haneche, the Algerian Ambassador to Spain since November 2005, is spending his last few weeks in Madrid prior to returning to his country now that the Abdelaliz Buteflika Government is replacing him and has sent an agrément to the Spanish Government, according to what diplomatic  sources told The Diplomat.

Haneche is currently the dean of the Arabic ambassadors accredited to Spain after having spent ten years in Madrid. In addition, together with the Argentinian Carlos Bettini, he is the resident ambassador who has spent most time in the Spanish capitol. Coincidentally, Bettini is also waiting to be relieved by the new Argentinian Ambassador Ramón Puerta, in the near future.

With the departure of Hanache and Bettini, the resident ambassador with the highest seniority in Spain will be Jean Marie Mussi, the diplomatic representative of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta since 2003, added the same sources. He is followed by the Palestinian Ambassador, Musa Amer Odeh, who presented his credentials in 2005.
