The secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Fathallah Sijilmassi, visited Madrid yesterday to meet members of the Government and of the Spanish business world, with the objective of looking for the participation of companies of our country in projects promoted by the organization.
The Moroccan Fathallah Sijilmassi, who leads the UfM from Barcelona, tries to reactivate the organization by setting in motion the economic factor, meant to strengthen cooperation between both sides of the Mediterranean to improve life conditions in the most disadvantaged countries.
Along the same lines, yesterday, accompanied by the diplomatic advisor, Sergi Farré, he met, at the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, the director general, Inmaculada Riera; and the director of International, Alfredo Bonet, with whom he analyzed cooperation possibilities.

Afterwards, he took part in a lunch offered by the Instituto de Empresa, which was attended by executive directors of around twenty of the main Spanish companies, in which he tackled the interest in acting in fields such as energy, climate change, infrastructures or urban development, among others.
Sijilmasssi was also received by the Foreign Minister, José Manuel García-Margallo, and held a meeting with the secretary of State for Cooperation and Ibero-America, Jesús Gracia. Today, he plans to complete his contacts with the leadership of the Foreign Ministry holding meetings with the secretary of State for the EU, Fernando Eguidazu, and with the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ybáñez.
The secretary general for the UfM will complete his agenda in Madrid on Friday with his participation in a breakfast at Elcano Royal Institute and meeting the Ibero-American Secretary General, Rebeca Grynspan.
