The Diplomat. 27/01/2016
The ambassadors of the European Union Member States generally meet once a month at a lunch with some notable Spanish personality. In November they met the leader of Ciudadanos, Albert Rivera, and on Monday, it was the turn of the former Spanish President, Felipe González.
As was to be expected the conversation on this occasion, in the residence of the French Ambassador, Yves Saint-Geours, centred on the Spanish political situation and, in the main, on the possibilities of forming a new Government.
It was obvious to the ambassadors that González is not in favour of a pact between the PSOE and Podemos, which he believes is only interested in scuppering the Socialist Party. So much so that according to what The Diplomat was told, one of the ambassadors was led to comment later “I have the impression that he fears Pablo as much as Pedro“.
