The Spanish Cabinet approved yesterday a Royal Decree to create a Tourism Office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), within the Spanish Embassy, with headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Its jurisdiction will include not only the United Arab Emirates but also Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.

The Government estimates that the new office will contribute to strengthen the Spanish presence in those emerging tourist markets in which the main competitors of our country are already taking action (Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom).

It will also operate in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Ira, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar

Besides, the decision has been influenced by the fact that it is an area in which the demand of travels to Spain has been increasing significantly in the last years: 50 per cent in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman, and more than 25 per cent in the UAE.

The creation of this office is part of the National and Comprehensive Tourism Plan 2012-2015, among whose objectives is the modernization and restructuring of the Tourism Offices network abroad.
