The Diplomat. Madrid
London considers that the official visit that the Spanish King and Queen plan to make to the United Kingdom in March should not be postponed in the event of not having formed a new Government in Spain.
Sources consulted by The Diplomat consider that, because of the official character of the visit, it should be made on the days scheduled, from 8 to 10 March. Why? Because, according to those sources, the visit will serve to give an image of normality and emphasize that the states are above political changes that temporarily surround governments.
The truth is that, somehow, the British authorities observe with interest the development of political negotiations in Spain. Especially, taking into account that the visit of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia would be the first one made by Spain’s monarchs in thirty years. The last official visit was made by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía in April 1986.
