García-Margallo, at the Congress.

The Diplomat. Madrid

A confusion yesterday led to the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel García-Margallo, 71 years and 5 months old being considered to be the one responsible for heading the Elders Table in the Constitution of Congress resulting from the elections of 20 December. Finally, the task fell to the PP parliamentarian Maria Teresa de Lara Carbó, who was 72 on 13 December and is, therefore, the oldest member of the Chamber.

The confusion was created in the informants by the official files in the Lower Chamber of the previous legislature in which the birth date of Lara Carbó, the Gerona MP was 1944 and not 1943. A member of Congress in the last five legislatures, she will, therefore, be the one who will head the session that will chose the definitive Congress Table and she will be accompanied by the two youngest parliamentarians, the Socialist Maria Such, the Valencia MP, and Nagua Alba,  Podemos MP for Guipúzcoa,  both 25 years old.
