At an event attended by two such famous musicians as the violinist Lakshminarayana Subramaniam and his daughter Bindu, the Indian Embassy in Madrid yesterday launched its cultural events programme commemorating the 60th anniversary of relations between the two countries.

The first of these events will be taking place today. Bindu Subramaniam will be offering a concert of popular music in the Auditorio CaixaForum. The singer stressed yesterday the “love there is in India for Spanish culture”, and she also said she felt at home here, “as there is also much interest for everything that India represents”.

In addition, it was her father, Lakshminarayana Subramaniam, who opened the programme in  Valladolid, where he performed with the Castilla y Léon Symphony Orchestra.

A further seven Indian musical groups will be performing in several Spanish cities throughout 2016, showing the diversity that ranges from classical music to contemporary dance, without forgetting percussion and jazz.

In addition, two unique exhibitions showcasing India are being organised in various Spanish cities  –“Women by women” and “Forms of Devotion”.

The Ambassador also announced that the winner of the competition to design the logo for these sixty years had already been chosen but that the winner’s name would not be disclosed until 26 January when India’s National Day is celebrated.

The organisation of these events, sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, involved the Indian Embassy, Casa de la India and other public and private entities.

In return, the Ambassador said that Spain too would be holding a programme of events, through it representatives in India, to commemorate this sixtieth anniversary of bilateral relations.
