Lieutenant General Edward Grant Martin Davis will be sworn in as the Governor and Commander-in Chief of the British Armed Forces in Gibraltar on Tuesday 19 January.
Grant, according to the Gibraltar Information Office, will arrive on the Rock on that day, accompanied by his wife, Lorraine Davis, on board the auxiliary landing ship dock RFA Mounts Bay. They will be met by the Interim Governor, Alison MacMillan, and the Prime Minister, Fabián Picardo.
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment will fire an 18-gun salute during the short welcoming ceremony to the Tower. After it, the new Governor will make his way to Parliament to be sworn in as the highest authority in the Colony.
Lieutenant General Grant is replacing another high ranking Marine officer, Sir James Dutton, who stepped down on 28 September. Although Dutton explained that his resignation was due to personal reasons, London media such as The Telegraph, stated that Dutton resigned because he felt the British response to what he considered to be Spanish “aggression” was too weak.
