The Diplomat. Madrid
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the thermonuclear test carried out by the North Korean Government, an action confirmed by Pyongyang, but whose nature has not been verified by Spain and which means “a serious threat for the international peace and security and for the Korean peninsula”. In fact, Spain insisted that, with this measure, North Korea has “violated the UN Security Council’s resolutions”.
In this context, Madrid urged the North Korean authorities to “fully observe” the aforementioned resolutions and to dismantle “its nuclear arsenal irreversibly and verifiably”. Besides, Spain, as president of the committee of the Security Council on North Korea –established in accordance with the Resolution 1718–, expressed its determination to “collaborate with the international community” and to “give a firm answer to that unacceptable violation of the resolutions”.
