The Italian ambassador, Pietro Sebastiani, has awarded the Order of the Star of Italy to Charles Powell, director of the Elcano Royal Institute and a History professor at the San Pablo CEU University, for his contribution to Spanish-Italian cultural relations.

In his acceptance speech, professor Powell recalled that he had inherited his deep affection and admiration for Italy from his godfather, Edgardo Saronne, emeritus professor of Slav Philology at the University of Bologna, as well as from his own father, Arthur F. Powell, who taught English Philology at the Catholic University of Milan.

Among those attending the award ceremony were former ministers Marcelino Oreja and Eduardo Serra, as well as the ambassadors of India, Canada, Poland and Finland.
