The Peruvian Ambassador to Spain, Rafael Roncagliolo, has awarded Tomas Poveda, former director general of Casa de América, the Order of Merit for Distinguished Services, granted to him by the Peruvian Government in recognition of his significant support in the diffusion of the Peruvian culture and reality in Spain.

At the award ceremony, which took place in the Peruvian Embassy, Roncagliolo, highlighted “the indefatigable work of Tomás Poveda, who has contributed to the rapprochement of the Spanish and Peruvian societies, strengthening the image and presence of Peru in Europe”. The Ambassador went on to say that Poveda “belongs to the distinguished group of citizens, that from one side to the other of the Atlantic contribute to creating a Latin American school of thought, action and solidarity”.

With the decoration, the Peruvian authorities are underlining that during the time Tomas Poveda was responsible for the Casa de América (from March 2012 to June 2015), it became established as a meeting place for Latin American and Spanish people in governmental, diplomatic, business, academic and institutional spheres.

Tomas Poveda was appointed Director General of Public Diplomacy and Media in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July.
