The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, awarded yesterday the Order of Civil Merit to several members of the Security Forces and Corps of the State and of the Civil Defence and Emergencies, because of their performance during the earthquake that took place in Nepal back in May.
In the event, which was also attended by the Minister of Home Affairs, Jorge Fernández Díaz, twelve civil guards, five National Police officers and two members of the Civil Defence that worked together in the Asian country were decorated.
This decoration has been promoted by the Spanish Ambassador to New Delhi, Gustavo de Arístegui, since the entire operation of search and rescue of Spanish people affected by the earthquake was coordinated from that Embassy.
These decorations are “a clear sign of Spain’s solidarity and maximum proximity to countries affected by natural disasters and of the firm commitment to look for the security of Spaniards beyond our borders”, according to what the Diplomatic Information Office (OID in its Spanish acronym) points out in a statement.
