The Diplomat. Madrid
Yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, rejected the imposition by the European Union of more economic sanctions on Russia because of Ukraine’s crisis. From Riga, where he is taking part in an informal meeting for the heads of the European diplomacies, he expressed that “there are countries in favour of keeping them, others in favour of increasing them (…) and others, on the opposite extreme, capable of reducing them”. He added that Spain considers that “peace has to be given a chance”, because, despite the frights, “Minsk’s agreements are being implemented and this is not the time to speed up the sanctions process”.
