Ernesto de Zulueta, current director general of North America, Asia and the Pacific, will be the next Spanish Ambassador in Peru, according to information provided to The Diplomat by reliable sources. He will replace Juan Carlos Sánchez in the position, who was holding it since October 2011.
Zulueta will join the group of highly placed officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that leave their positions to assume the responsibility of an Embassy. Gonzalo de Benito, former secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, did it recently to go to Japan and Rafael Mendívil, former under-secretary, was destined to Turkey. The future ambassador in Lima, aged 53 years old, has been holding his current position since January 2012 and has previously been, among other things, “number two” at the Embassies of Montevideo, Singapore and Warsaw, as well as consul general in Dakar.
