Canal Theatres premiere a ground-breaking ‘Sleeping Beauty’

February 6, 2015
in Uncategorized

Canal Theatres of the Community of Madrid (1 Cea Bermúdez Street) present the premiere in Spain of The sleeping beauty, performed by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. This modern and subversive version signed by choreographer Mats Ek, under the artistic direction of Gradimir Pankov, is accompanied by Chaikovsky’s legendary music. This staging will be shown at the Red Theatre until 8 February.

Mats Ek presents princess Aurora as a rebel teenager facing her parents, who, just like in the tale, ends up being victim of a prick. However, in this case, it is not that of a needle but of heroin. The path of self-destruction and the fight between good and evil are driven by the malevolent spirit of Carabosse, but just like in the fairytale, love ends up redeeming.
