The Russian Centre for Science and Culture (calle Atocha, 34 de Madrid) will be showing, this evening at 18:00 hours, the film Varvara, the fair with the silken hair, directed by Aleksandr Rou in 1969. The projection will be in the original language, with Spanish subtitles.
Once upon a time there was a Czar called Yeremey. The Czar set off on his annual journey to carry out an inventory of his Kingdom-State. On day he leant down to drink from a well, but Chudo-Yudo, King of the Underwater, dragged him down. He demanded a ransom for his freedom, but the Czar did not even know if what he was being ask for existed within his Kingdom. The Czar agreed, without knowing that in his absence, his wife had given birth to a son. The film tells the tale of how Andrey, son of the fisherman and Varvara met, and fell in love, despite all manner of intrigues, and of how Czar Yeremy became ashamed of his stupid and lazy heir, and, how, in the end, all turned out well.
