Thirteen European regions, among which are Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura and Aragón, are calling for greater attention to demographic issues within the EU 2020 strategy for growth and employment.
The signatories warn that the Strategy itself reflects a “polarization” among regions, since cities like London or Brussels “suffer the consequences of overpopulation”, other regions, which represent 75% of the territory, “are facing profound changes caused by the increase in life expectancy, low birth rates and depopulation.
