The Spanish government stated yesterday that they “lament and condemn” Israel’s decision to build 500 new houses in East Jerusalem, and reminded, in a communiqué that Spain, and the international community agree on the “illegality” of these kinds of settlements. In addition, they warned that these “unilateral acts” impede the formation of a Palestinian State, and are, therefore, incompatible “with the formal Israeli commitment to negotiate with the Palestinians, with a view to reaching a peaceful, global and permanent solution on the basis of a two State principle”.
