José Luis Bonet, president of Freixenet and of the Leading Brands of Spain Forum, affirmed yesterday that he does not consider secession in Catalonia possible and that he thinks the problem will be solved with “caution, words and agreements”.
Bonet, who participated in the New Economy Forum, where he was presented by the Minister of Economy, Luis de Guindos, as “Catalan, Spanish and European”, pointed out that what is important is that the president of the Catalan Government, Artur Mas, looked willing to talk, as of 10 November, after the 9-N, with the head of the Executive, Mariano Rajoy. “I have understood an approach to dialogue and the way is talking and, from there, reaching a consensus within the institutional and legal frameworks of the country”, he highlighted.
The Catalan businessman thinks that multinationals do not consider the secession as something possible either, because they have not noticed any movement in that direction.
In relation to corruption cases, Bonet admitted that there are businesspeople playing that game, but he specified that these are not the majority and he considered that, although this is something bad, is not something that is going to destroy the Marca España.
As regards the increase in the voting intention for Podemos, he pointed out that he does not share their ideology and that he thinks that the triumph of this party would not be good for the country. However, being practical, he said that “businesspeople always adapt”.
The Catalan José Luis Bonet will preside over the new Spanish Chamber of Commerce as of 19 November
José Luis Bonet, who has always been proud of feeling Catalan and Spanish, will predictably assume next 19 November the Presidency of the new Chamber of Commerce of Spain, which will gather the functions of the Higher Council of Chambers of Commerce, and where he will have as vice-president the chairman of Banco Santander, Ana Botín, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, Miquel Valls.
Yesterday, in his speech, Bonet urged the Spanish companies to bet on quality internationalization with brand, “because we cannot –he said- supply excellent raw materials in some sectors for others to make great products”.
