Diplomat José María Rodríguez Coso will be named, possibly before the end of the month, as the new Spanish ambassador to Ireland, taking over from Javier Garrigues, The Diplomat was informed by reliable sources. Rodríguez Coso is currently Chief of Protocol (Introductor de Embajadores) and he is in charge of all protocol services in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the preparation and the ceremony of presentation of Letters of Credence to the King on behalf of the new Ambassadors, accredited in Spain.
Born 55 years ago in Sabadell (Barcelona), Rodríguez Coso was posted in countries like the United Arab Emirates, India, Argentina, Cuba, Portugal and Morocco, before taking up a post in protocol in 2008, and area in which he has a great deal of experience. After being named deputy director for Official Visits and Travel, Ceremonial and Orders, in 2009, in January 2011, he was designated Chief of Protocol, a position that also oversees the preparation of official and State visits to Spain by foreign dignitaries.
