‘Vaivén-Al Ándalus’ concert at Casa Árabe

The well-known Aragonese band Biella Nuei, legendary in our country’s folk scene, presents this evening at 20:00 hrs., a recital in the Casa Árabe Auditorium (calle Alcalá, 62, de Madrid). The concert will address the nexus between the music of Al-Andalus and the popular music of oral tradition, in which many reminiscences of those types of melodies have survived, as well as the musical instruments that will take part in the recital; albogues (al-buk), dulzaina (gaitá), flautas de ala de buitre, ud, darbuka, etc.

The Vaivén Project is a musical movement that investigates the rhythmic coexistence of different cultures, from the musical genres of each side, and with this, one can follow the toing and froing of peoples and music, the two way road that joins Africa, Europe and Latin America, but also the river that flows from the old music to the popular music with an oral tradition.

A rhapsode will also be taking part in the show, guiding the public through the writings of Al-Andalus’ poets.

A cocktail of sounds and languages, during which two XI century drums from Al-Andalus , recently found in the San Pablo neighbourhood, in Zaragoza, will be presented, having been rescued from their obscurity.
