Casa Árabe presents ‘La convivencia entre españoles y marroquíes’

September 23, 2014
in Uncategorized

Author: Lucía Ferreiro Prado

Casa Árabe and the publishing house Dykinson get together to show, this afternoon, the work of Lucía Ferreiro La convivencia entre españoles y marroquíes. El impacto de las migraciones en las relaciones interculturales. The event will offer interventions of the author, who will be accompanied by Rafael Calduch Cervera, professor of International Relations of the Complutense University of Madrid, and by Ana Planet Contreras, director of the Workshop of International Studies of the Mediterranean (TEIM in its Spanish acronym), of the Autonomous University of Madrid. The event will be presented by Eduardo López Busquets, director general of Casa Árabe.

The book deals with one of the least studied aspects in the discipline of International Relations, the intercultural relations. The objective of the work is to study the processes of change taking place in a specific context (Community of Madrid) as a result of a migratory phenomenon, both in the immigrant population and in the recipient society. Knowing what the dynamics of the mutual cultural interaction are, which means what is rejected by the other, what is adapted and what remains unaltered in one’s identity is essential to improve coexistence in a society, such as the Spanish, characterized by a growing interculturality.

Facing the simplifying theories promoted by Huntington leading to an unavoidable conflict between civilizations, but lacking empirical background, the research carried out is based on an extensive fieldwork with the participation of Spanish and Moroccans showing a rich reality subtle in nuances.
