This afternoon at 7:00 p.m., Tabacalera Promoción del Arte (51 Embajadores Street, Madrid) inaugurates the exhibition Here and Elsewhere Collection FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, a series of videos and films from the collection of the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, of Dunkirk, France.
It takes its title from the film that, in 1976, was produced by Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville from footage of “Jusqu’à la victoire”, a pro-Palestinian film produced in 1970 by Godard and Jean Pierre Gorin when they were part of the group Dziga Vertov. “Here and Elsewhere (Ici et Ailleurs)” marked a change in Godard’s work, based until then in the experimentation with video and politics, towards the analysis of the way people perceive themselves and others. The nineteen works selected for the exhibition are a reflection on a particular geographic, political or social message or on personal concerns of the artists. All of them reflect, just like Godard’s film, how people see themselves, their neighbours and the role they play in society.
The exhibition has been arranged by the General Subdepartment of Promotion of Beaux Arts of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport; it has been organized by Hilde Teerlinck and Sayoko Nakahara, director and coordinator of exhibitions respectively, of the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais.
