¡Fuego a discreción! (Fire at will)

July 16, 2014
in Uncategorized

Authors: Javier Sanz and Guillermo Clemades

Come get your yummy ice-cream!: the most unusual warship of the War Navy of the United States fighting in the South Pacific was facing three major problems: the Japanese soldiers, the low spirits of the troops and a hot climate. Trying to solve the second and third problems, the Intelligence Service of the North American army made a list of possible remedies and ice-cream was the ideal answer. The invigorating power of ice-cream was so seriously taken that in 1945 the most unusual military ship of the Second World War was built: it was known as the “Ice Cream Barge” and it was exclusively destined to the production and distribution of tons and tons of ice-cream between the military bases and ships deployed in the South Pacific. The “Ice Cream Barge”, as well as being the first floating ice-cream parlour of the world, without a doubt delighted many soldiers and probably provided them with certain moral support while they were fighting in those battlefields so far away from their homes.

We know wars make the best and the worst of the human kind to come to the surface and ¡Fuego a discreción! is about all that, about human stories where almost anonymous characters made risky decisions with surprising results, of men and women ignored by history that will have their small recognition, about Machiavellian, crazy or fortunate plans and strategies, about stories where the clumsiness, talent, heroism or luck of their characters will make us laugh and will surprise us, and also about stories that will move us and will make us share feelings with those who lived them.
