Spain can be one of the countries getting most benefit from the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and the European Union, which both parties are negotiating. According to the last report of the think-tank from The Hispanic Council, its implementation could mean the creation of 143,000 jobs and an increase of 6.6% of the income per capita.
On the occasion of 4 July, The Hispanic Council presents its second report under the title “The Trade and Investment Agreement European Union-United States: towards the biggest trade agreement in history”, which analyzes the origins, the economic and social impact and the advantages and disadvantages for different sectors and for the citizens of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the EU and the USA, the one that will become the greatest trade alliance of the world.
According to Daniel Ureña, Director of The Hispanic Council: “Spain will be one of the countries getting most benefit from the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Europe, since this could mean the creation of 143,000 jobs in the medium term and an increase of the income per capita of 6.6% in the long term”.
However, the Agreement is encountering a strong opposition by the European left, which considers that it will reduce the quality standards in the European regulations and that the multinationals will escape the public control.
The Hispanic Council is an independent think tank promoting the relations between the Hispanic community of the Unites States and Spain. With presence in Washington D.C. and in Madrid, its main activities are the analysis, the research and the divulgation of information contributing to a better understanding between both countries.
