17 ambassadors of African countries in Spain responded to the invitation made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo to attend the inauguration of the new logistic base of the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, from where humanitarian aid will be sent within a maximum period of 48 hours to places such as Sahara, Mali, Mauritania or Senegal.

Yesterday, the ambassadors travelled in the plane of the Spanish Air Force along with García-Margallo and the ministers of Public works and Development, Ana Pastor; and of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, from the Canary Islands, as well as the executive director of the WFP, Ertharin Cousin. The base is in the Port of La Luz and it is being incorporated into the Network of Humanitarian Response Depot of the United Nations (Unhrd) that has five platforms in Dubai, Accra (Ghana), Brindisi (Italy), Subang (Malaysia) and Panama.
