The film depicts Havana in the first half of the nineteenth century, the film was inspired by Cirilo Villaverde’s classic novel about the loves of a beautiful mestiza whose ambition it is to break into the world of the white aristocracy and a young nihilistic and contrary creole man. Tortuous passion will translate the splendour, the penury and the chaos of a society still engaging in slavery, condemned to disappear in the vortex of cultural and racial syncretism that shape the birth of a nation through its fight for independence.
