The Government has carried out the substitution of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, naming Cristóbal González-Aller for the position. He will be taking over from Rafael Mendívil, who has been named ambassador to Turkey. In addition, last Friday’s Council of Ministers has appointed ambassadors to the Philippines, Hungary, Denmark, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Malta, Andorra, Libya, Kenia and Kuwait.
González-Aller has a great deal of experience in EU matters, and was “number two” at Spain’s Permanent Representation there, before being named ambassador to Turkey, a position he held until now. It will be Rafael Mendivil who will take over his post, having been Undersecretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for the last two and a half years, in which he propelled the first Law of Foreign Action and Foreign Service of the democratic period, as well as working on the development of the Treaty Law and the new Regulations for Diplomatic Careers. He has been ambassador to Poland and Bulgaria.

Hungary. José Ángel López Jorrín. Previously director of the Marca España Office and former ambassador to Bosnia, Bulgaria and the Slovak Republic.
Denmark. Enrique Pastor. Former ambassador to Hungary and Ireland.
Louxembourg. Carlos María de Lojendio. Former ambassador to Libya and Panama.
Cyprus. Angel Lossada. Secretary of State for Foreign Relations between 2008 and 2010.
Malta. José María Pons. Previously Director of the Cabinet of International Affairs for the Spanish President between 1991 and 1995, and former ambassador to the Netherlands, Denmark and Austria.
Andorra. Manuel Montobbio. Former ambassador to Albania.
Libya. José Antonio Bordallo. Former ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Paraguay.
Kenya. José Javier Nagore. Former ambassador to Cameroon and Honduras.
Kuwait. Carlos Sáenz de Tejada. Previously Deputy Director for South-East Asia.
In addition the Council of Ministers has named the current ambassador to Niger, Soledad Fuentes Gómez, as special ambassador to the Consular Emergency Unit in Madrid.
Lastly, the new director of the Marca España Office is Rafael Conde de Saro, former ambassador to India and Indonesia and expert in international economic relations.
