Réquiem habanero por Fidel

June 11, 2014
in Uncategorized

Author: J. J. Armas Marcelo.

Walter Cepeda, a retired colonel from the State Security, receives a phone call of his daughter exiled in Barcelona who announces the death of Fidel Castro. A committed revolutionary, Walter belongs to a world that has been falling apart for a long time, which has abandoned any idealism to fall into poverty, isolation and corruption. The news brings lots of memories. In the dark, in the greatest solitude and with the crazy soundtrack of the barks from a dog named María Callas, the old colonel evaluates his own dreams and failures as well as others’ until he writes the epitaph of a heroic and definitely lost time. Réquiem habanero por Fidel is a critical novel, written with irony and intelligence, but also with an extraordinary admiration for a country and for the people living in it while they wait, without giving up, for whatever the future brings after the last death of Fidel Castro.
