Yesterday, the Cabinet appointed new ambassadors of Spain in Lithuania, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, appointments adding to the large package passed during the Cabinet meeting last week.
The ambassador in Lithuania will be Emilio Fernández-Castaño, who has developed a great part of his career as a diplomat working on European affairs. In fact, he was secretary of State of the EU in the last years of the Government of Felipe González. Subsequently, he has been ambassador in Australia and Algeria, director general of International Economic Relations and Organizer of the International Exhibition of Zaragoza 2008. At the moment, he was consul general in Milan.
For his part, Jesús María Rodríguez-Andía will be the new ambassador in Costa Rica. At the moment he was consul general in Washington, and, before that, in Caracas and in Mendoza too, before being appointed ambassador in a special mission for Cooperation Affairs with Africa and Asia.
Finally, the Executive appointed Rafael Garranzo ambassador in Nicaragua. He has previously been general deputy director of Cooperation in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and general deputy director of North America, as well as adviser in the Embassy of the United States. Up to now, he was Director of Cooperation for Latin America and the Caribbean.
