Philip and Letizia: The conquest of the throne

June 19, 2014
in Uncategorized

Author: José Apezarena

When, ten years ago, Philip and Letizia got married, little they knew about what the future would bring. That happy day started for them a period where many things have happened, standing out the birth of two girls, Leonor and Sofía, a reason for joy and a guarantee for the future. However, they have also overcome quite some trouble. Maybe more than they expected. One of those negative aspects is summed up by the harshness of some of the people who have scrutinized Letizia’s behaviour and trajectory from the first minute. In that sense, these are not being very comfortable years for her, even though her activity as princess would deserve a mark, of at least, a pass.

The prince and princess could not imagine either a scandal as devastating as the Urdangarin case, which is causing damages to the monarchic institution, shaken by the opinion polls and criticized on the streets. Protests that Philip and Letizia have suffered and heard live. They did not see the incredible accumulation of health episodes afflicting the King Juan Carlos coming either. Philip and Letizia have had to face the consequences and keep a stiff upper lip. The positive side is that the crown prince has confirmed that he meets the conditions to come to the throne a day just like today.

This book sums up what has happened in the life of Philip and Letizia since that 22 May 2004. It is a chronicle of the changes they have gone through and how they got where they are today. How their work has been and how it is today, as well as how the future ahead of them will be, which is the same as saying the future ahead of this country. Because Philip of Bourbon and Letizia Ortiz will turn today, 19 June 2014, into the King and Queen of Spain of the 21st century.
