Among the plans for the future Philip VI for the weeks following his proclamation as King of Spain, there is a visit to make to the Pope Francisco, according to information provided to The Diplomat by reliable sources.

The visit to the Vatican is being prepared and there is not a set date yet, but everything points out that it will take place in July when it is also planned that Prince Philip and Princess Letizia travel to some of the countries that have special bonds with Spain, especially because of their relation of vicinity, such as Morocco, Portugal or France, among others.

The Prince and Princess of Asturias attended the ceremony of the start of the Pontificate

Although, for being Spain a secular State there will not be a religious ceremony included in the enthronement, as opposed to what happened with Juan Carlos I before the Spanish Constitution was passed, the new King and Queen maintain their Catholic condition, which means the visit to the Pope is within the normality.

The Prince and Princess of Asturias had the opportunity to greet and talk to the Pope Francisco in March last year, when they attended the mass of the start of his Pontificate in Rome, the moment they invited him to visit Spain. More recently, the King Juan Carlos and the Queen Sofía were the ones attending the Vatican to be present in the ceremonies of canonization of John XIII and John Paul II, and had a meeting with the Pope of around an hour.
