Yesterday, in his last function as Prince of Asturias, before being proclaimed King, Prince Philip attended the meeting of the Board of Management of Elcano Royal Institute of Strategic and International Studies, where the incorporation into this body of the former presidents of the Government, José María Aznar and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and of the former general secretary of the SEGIB (Ibero-American General Secretary’s Office), Enrique V. Iglesias, took place. The former president Felipe González had already been a member of the Board of Management since its establishment.
The Prince has been holding the Honour Presidency of the institution since its creation in 2001 and it is usual for him to attend, at least, once a year the meeting of the Board of Management. The last time he chaired a meeting of the board of management was last 17 December. During that meeting, a plan of action for 2014 was passed with the objective of promoting the “strategic renovation of the foreign policy” in Spain and the “Spanish influence in Brussels”.
The agenda of the meeting celebrated yesterday included the reading and the passing of the minutes of the last meeting, the appointment of the members, the reading of the president’s report and the passing of the annual accounts as well as the report correspondent to the exercise of 2013.

The Elcano Royal Institute, founded on 27 December 2001, is a private foundation whose essential mission is to be the thinking centre and the idea generation centre, useful for the political leaders and the heads of the public and private institutions interested and formation of the public opinion.
