Yesterday, ten days after the formal abdication of the King Juan Carlos, the Zarzuela issued the agenda of the functions corresponding to the monarch’s abdication and the proclamation of Philip VI with the novelty, according to information provided to The Diplomat, of the inclusion of the Diplomatic Corps in the list of guests invited to the reception taking place at the Royal Palace on Thursday 19 June after the ceremony of enthronement at the Courts.
Once the Government and the Zarzuela ruled out the possibility of sending invitations to other Royal Houses for the proclamation of the new monarch, the mystery of whether the ambassadors accredited in Spain will be present or not in any of the events taking place on 19 June was still unsolved. The seat of the Congress of Deputies was not viable due to the lack of space in the guest’s platform, so the only possible option was to have this deference with them in the Royal Palace.
The reception will be like the traditional ones of the 12 October and it will start at 1:00 p.m
The reception will be like the traditional ones of the 12 October and it will start at 1:00 p.m., once the Royal Family has greeted the people gathered in the Oriente square from the central balcony. The future King Philip VI and Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, Infanta Sofía, as well as Juan Carlos and Sofía will be in the balcony. Therefore, the possibility of the two kings and queens being at the Throne Room to greet the guests later has not been ruled out yet.
