As part of the cycle “Amrika: árabes en América”, organized by the Arab House, the House of America and the Mediterranean House, the institution located at 62 Alcalá Street, in Madrid, offers four sessions of cinema analyzing the presence of the Arab world and culture in the American continent. These four screenings will take place between 9 May and 6 June.
The films making up this new cycle include two premieres in Spain, Solamente en Nueva York, by Ghazi Albuliwi (USA, France and Turkey, 2013) and American Arab, by Usama Alshaibi (USA-Iraq, 2013), which explore the Arab identity in the USA through two different languages: a hilarious fiction and an introspective documentary. Apart from these two productions made by Americans, one of Palestinian origin and the other one of Iraqi origin, two classics of the Arab-American question will be available too: the Canadien Incendios, by Denis Villeneuve (Canada, 2010), nominated for an Oscar in 2011, and the Brazilian A la izquierda del padre, by Luiz Fernando Carvalho (Brazil, 2001).
All the screenings will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Auditorium of the Arab House (62 Alcalá Street). The films will be projected in original version with Spanish subtitles. Screening times can be consulted here.
