Diplomats Pilar Méndez and Ricardo Losa will be the new Deputy General Directors for Asian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, replacing Fernando Alonso Navaridas and Antonio Polidura, respectively, said sources to The Diplomat.
After the appointment of Fernando Alonso as Ambassador to Gabon, Pilar Méndez will take care of South and East Asia, which includes China and Japan. For his part, Ricardo Losa will take on the affairs of Southeast Asia and the Pacific, with countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand or Australia, replacing Antonio Polidura, who will be named Consul General in Melbourne.
Pilar Méndez was the «number two» at the Spanish Embassy in Singapore, and was previously assigned to the Technical Secretariat of the Delegate Commission for Economic Affairs and the Government Presidency and was deputy general director of Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Deputy Consul in Miami.
Ricardo Losa was already part of the Subdirectorate General of Southeast Asia and previously was second in command at Spanish embassies in Kenya, Bolivia and Angola.
