The Council of Ministers appointed yesterday Marcos Gómez Martínez as Director General of the United Nations and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation. He replaces Juan Ignacio Morro, who has been appointed in October of last year.
Born in 1965 in Artà (Balearic Islands), Marcos Gómez has a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, a diploma in French Law from the University of Paris-XI and sworn translator-interpreter of English and Russian. In 1990 he entered the Diplomatic Career with the number one of his promotion.
Throughout his career he has been assigned to the Human Rights Office, the General Directorate of Europe, the General Directorate of Consular Affairs and the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has also been assigned to the Embassies of Spain in Russia, Argentina and the United Nations.
He was advisor in the Presidency of the Government (2004-2008) and ambassador of Spain in New Zealand (2008-2011), as well as Ambassador in Special Mission. Later he was deputy consul in London and since 2017 he was consul general of Spain in Canton (China).
