The Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo (Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation), based in Seville, welcomes from yesterday and until next Friday the fifth edition of WOCMES (World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies), with nearly 3,000 participants from 70 countries in more than 400 sessions.
This edition of WOCMES will be the meeting point to submit, discuss and share information on the latest and most recent studies on the Middle East, ranging from the analysis and resolution of conflicts to migration, water, environment, culture, media and studies on Al-Andalus.
This congress is an unmissable event for researchers, professors, students, media, professionals and other groups interested in studies on North Africa and the Middle East, as well as other regions of the world with an impact on these areas. It is considered the most prestigious event in this field.
The four previous editions were held in Mainz (Germany, 2002), Amman (Jordan, 2006), Barcelona (Spain, 2010) and Ankara (Turkey, 2014). In Seville’s meeting, the focus will be on the relationship between the three cultures and, for the very raison d’être of the Foundation, in the Andalusian legacy and the roots of the city that hosts this international meeting .
«Seville, an example of coexistence among cultures, stands today as the perfect setting to host this forum and the debate on the study of the Middle East, since both the city and the Andalusian community have traditionally been a place for understanding, for the exchange of ideas and intercultural dialogue», the organization said in a statement.
