«We are not unaware of the criticism about the conditions of employees hired for the works» of Qatar’s Fooball World Cup, said Ambassador Mohammed Al Kuwari during the presentation of the Final Phase of FIFA’s World Cup, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East in November 2022.
«Nevertheless,» he continued, «there are international reports that corroborate that our institutions have acted responsibly to improve those working conditions and to guarantee compliance with human rights». The diplomat also underscored Qatar’s firm commitment to «continue to improve in this regard».
Before hundreds of guests who gathered at their official residence to attend the final match between France and Croatia, the Qatari ambassador confirmed that «the construction of stadiums and infrastructures is ahead of schedule» and invited «all who visit us to discover a hospitable and open country».
Al Kuwari bet decidedly «for sport, and in particular football, as one of the best vehicles to connect cultures and civilizations» and added that «sport plays an important role in our philosophy», which contemplates «continuing to support athletes and ambitious projects such as the Aspire Academy», which three years ago saved the Cultural Leonesa football team from his disappearance, something that the Mayor of León, present at the event, thanked for «what sport and its values mean».
During the party was also presented ‘As Arabia’, the website of the Spanish sports newspaper that «will be one of the pillars of the Qatar World Cup,» said the ambassador, at whose invitation responded many ambassadors such as those of Palestine, Kuwait, Iran, Sudan, Kenya, South Korea, Mozambique and Bolivia, among others.
Qatar is from today the host country of next Soccer World Cup, whose final phase will be held in November 2022. «The competition comes for the first time to the Middle East, supported by a solid and professional project,» said Al Kuwari before ending with a wish: «I would like nothing more than to see a Qatar-Spain final in Doha». Inshallah.
