The new president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, has appointed Ana Helena Chacón Echevarría as ambassador to Spain, replacing Doris Osterlof, said sources to The Diplomat. Chacón was second vice president during the term of Luis Guillermo Solís, between May 2014 and May 2018.
Ana Helena Chacón is a well-known Costa Rican politician. She was also Deputy Minister of Public Security and a Social Christian Union Party‘s MP between 2006 and 2010. She left the party to create, along with other militants, the Democratic and Social Center Party. She also left this party to be part of the candidacy of Solis for the Presidency, with the Citizen Action Party, to which also belongs Alvarado.
Human Rights activist, in 2017 she was a candidate to take the position of executive director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), but she did not manage to be elected.
